‘Tens of thousands’ attend priestly blessing at Western Wall

There was a significant police presence amid rising tensions over the status of the Temple Mount.

Tens-of-thousands” of Jewish worshipers attended a mass priestly blessing at the Western Wall this week.

Protected by hundreds of Israeli police, the crowd of Kohanim, who are believed to be descended from Moses’s priestly brother Aaron, participated in the bi-annual ritual on Monday.

Marking Passover, the event comes amid flaring tensions centred upon the status of Temple Mount, a site holy to Jews and Muslims.

Last year over 50,000 were reported to have attended, with this year’s figure estimated to be in the “tens of thousands” by Israeli Police.
