The Crown casts Israeli-Arab actor Salim Dau as Mohamed Al-Fayed

Season 5 line-up also features The Kite Runner actor Khalid Abdalla as Dodi and Tenet star Elizabeth Debicki as Diana, Princess of Wales

Israeli-Arab actor Salim Dau has been cast in the fifth series of The Crown as Mohamed Al-Fayed

Israeli-Arab actor Salim Dau has joined the cast of the hotly-anticipated fifth series of Netflix hit drama The Crown.

Dau, best known for his roles in the Bartlett Sher-directed political thriller Oslo and Israeli hit drama series Fauda, will star as Mohamed Al-Fayed, billionaire businessman and father of Dodi al-Fayed, who was killed alongside Diana, Princess of Wales, following a car crash in Paris in 1997.

The Kite Runner actor Khalid Abdalla has been cast as Dodi, while Tenet star Elizabeth Debicki will portray Diana.

Their romantic involvement lasted just a few weeks before the fatal accident occurred in the early hours of 31 August 1997 at the Pont de l’Alma underpass in the French capital.

The new season of The Crown also features Dominic West as Prince Charles, Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II, Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret and Jonny Lee Miller as Prime Minister John Major.

Elizabeth Debicki will portray Diana, Princess of Wales, alongside Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Al-Fayed
