The Sunday View: How to get justice for the Munich Olympics massacre

Our mini-documentary series explores the fight for justice from the families of 11 Israeli athletes and coaches killed during the 1972 Summer Olympic Games in Germany

September 1972. A masked terrorist steps on to a balcony in Munich’s Olympic Village. Two Israeli athletes had already been murdered.

Within 24 hours – after a botched rescue attempt by West German authorities – another nine hostages, and a policeman, would be shot dead.

Yet for the widows and children of the murdered athletes, the agony was not over: their fight for justice has lasted half a century.

But why?

Journalist Etan Smallman presents this episode of The Sunday View with Israeli Olympic team member Shaul Ladany, New York University professor Lee Igel, and Ankie Spitzer, whose husband Andrei was killed in the massacre.
