Emergency service Magen David Adom posted a picture of the scene of the fire, adding that two were pronounced dead when they arrived.

An explosion in the Israeli port city of Jaffa has killed three people and led to the collapse of a building.

An investigation is under way to discover the cause of the large explosion, police said.

An emergency team found three people dead under the rubble. Five others were taken to hospital.

Local media reports said the explosion occurred at a store for construction material in the Ajami district of Jaffa, south of Tel Aviv, and is likely to have been caused by an electrical short and gas leak.

Local residents described a huge blast that led to initial fears of a terrorist attack.

Large plumes of smoke billowed above the area before firefighters put out the blaze.
