Title race is on for table tennis side

Team captain Jeremy Banks

Maccabi GB’s table-topping table tennis first team are poised to take the Premier League title in the Wembley and Harrow Table Tennis League for just the second time in their history.

Maccabi GB take a six-point lead into the final match of a hotly-contested season, which has seen them win 13 of their 16 league games to date. Long-standing team-mates Rafi Marom, Guy Ben-Aroya, Jeremy Banks and Dov Katz have starred in the majority of matches, also supported by Keith Lesser and Eli Baraty.

Consistent quality performances have been the key to a season that has seen only three matches lost and with Marom and Ben-Aroya topping the averages with 80 per cent plus win rates.

Team captain Jeremy Banks said: “Maccabi GB Table Tennis has never been stronger. Our first team have excelled themselves this season, looking to take the premier league title for only the second time in our history. It’s a mark of success and recognition for the whole organisation.

“We currently have six Maccabi GB Table Tennis teams in total, including an unprecedented number of juniors developing through our coaching systems. It’s an exciting time for table tennis in Maccabi GB and the future looks very promising.”

On 31 March, the team lines up against Lowlands in the prestigious Elvin Cup Final. 2014 could be the first time in table tennis history, that Maccabi GB table tennis lands the double.
