Toddler thrown to the ground after violent Stamford Hill mugging

A mother-of-four thought her “time had come” when a thief grabbed her from behind and violently threw her two-year-old daughter’s pushchair to the ground.

The 28-year-old was on her way to visit the child’s grandmother in Stamford Hill, Hackney, on New Year’s Day, when the ordeal took place.

A neighbour’s CCTV footage captured the shocking moment that the suspect chased the helpless mother down Darenth Road before pushing over the buggy, snatching her handbag and fleeing away from the scene.

Speaking to the Standard, the young woman said: “It was really frightening. I thought he could have a knife or a gun or he was trying to kidnap my child.

“I was so relieved when he grabbed my bag because I seriously thought he was going to kill me.

“I’m not easily scared but I am still traumatised. I heard a noise in my house the next day and just began screaming again.”

The victim added that her toddler, who suffered a bruised head, has been suffering from bad nightmares since the incident.

Shomrim N E London and police arrived at the scene shortly after 3.37pm on Sunday, 1 January.

The suspect is described as a light-skinned black male, aged 25 to 30 years, 5ft 9ins tall, slim build with short cropped black hair. He was wearing a blue trench coat and blue jeans.

No arrests have been made. Enquiries are ongoing.
