The UK subsidiary for one of Israel’s largest banks has appointed a new chief business officer in London.

Andy Mallin, who moves from Santander’s real estate division, joins the top team at Bank Leumi in London, reporting to chief executive Gil Karni.

Mallin is charged with growing new business in corporate and commercial banking, with Karni hailing “his expertise and breadth of experience”.

The bank, which has 250 branches, is preparing to roll-out its online-only bank Pepper in the United States, after figures showed that more new customers were joining Pepper per day than were joining the business’s traditional banking branch.

Leumi’s digital banking platform uses artificial intelligence to profile customers and tailor content and services, describing this as “completely different to the traditional banking language we have come to know”.
