Tributes have been paid to the former Jewish Care chairman Michael Goldmeier, who has died in hospital aged 73 after contracting the coronavirus.

Labour peer Lord Michael Levy said Goldmeier was “the most honest, honourable, and principled man that it has been our privilege to have known for so many years and to have had such a close and special friendship with for nearly 50 years.”

The solicitor, who served as warden and chairman of Mill Hill Synagogue, became involved in the founding of the Jewish Leadership Council.

Jewish Care said: “His wise counsel will be greatly missed. Our thoughts are with Philippa, Rebecca, Sara and Jonny.”
