Tributes have been paid to Jerry Goldstein, father of United Synagogue president Michael Goldstein and the chair of the Jewish Leadership Council, Jonathan Goldstein.

Mr Goldstein, 80, husband to Ann, died on Sunday. A third brother, Daniel, lives in Israel.

Board of Deputies president Marie van der Zyl described Jerry Goldstein as a “ kind man, who will be sorely missed”.

Steven Wilson, chief executive of the United Synagogue, said: “We wish chayim aruchim, long life, to our president, Michael Goldstein and the Goldstein family, on the sad passing of his dear father, Jerry.

“Jerry was a beloved stalwart of Hampstead Garden Suburb Synagogue and will be sorely missed by the community and all who knew him.”

It is understood that Mr Goldstein’s death was not related to the corona virus.
