Trump criticises US Jews saying they ‘don’t love Israel enough’
In his latest attack on American Jewry, the former President accused them of not supporting Israel because only 25 percent of the community voted for him
Defeated US president Donald Trump has criticised American Jews say they “don’t love Israel enough” after admitting he received only 25 per cent of the Jewish vote as the last election.
In his latest attack on US Jewry, he said: “Jewish people who live in the United States don’t love Israel enough.
“Does that make sense to you? I’m not talking about Orthodox Jews.”
Reflecting on the result of the last Presidential election he added:” “I did the Heights, I did Jerusalem, and I did Iran… I believe we got 25 per cent of the Jewish vote, and it doesn’t make sense.
“It just seems strange to me.”
Trump, who has long been hailed as a hero by the Christian Zionist movement, made his remarks during an interview with the monthly AMI magazine, which was published this week.
The former president has a history of suggesting he is better aware of what is good for Jews in the US than the community themselves.
In 2019 he said: “And I think any Jewish people that vote for a Democrat … I think it shows either a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.”
He told attendees at the 2019 Israeli American Council Summit they had “no choice” in voting for him and that Jews who voted for Democrats “don’t love Israel enough”.
During a March 2020 speech by Vice President Mike Pence at the 2020 AIPAC Conference he called Trump “the greatest friend of the Jewish people and the state of Israel to ever sit in the Oval Office.”
