Trump aide: No regrets that Holocaust statement didn’t refer to Jews

The president's team accused of 'denial' for not referencing Jews during Donald Trump's International Holocaust Remembrance Day statement

President Donald Trump

One of Donald Trump’s senior aides has said there are no regrets a presidential statement on the Holocaust did not include a clear reference to the six million Jews who were killed.

Reince Priebus said he does not regret the words and that “we’ll never forget the Jewish people who suffered in World War Two.”

Mr Trump’s three-paragraph statement on International Holocaust Remembrance Day drew criticism from the Anti-Defamation League after it failed to make any reference to Jews, in contrast with presidents from previous administrations.

Democratic Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia said a Holocaust remembrance must acknowledge the slaughter of Jews, otherwise it becomes “Holocaust denial”.

Mr Priebus said he’s “not whitewashing anything” and that for the record: “Everyone’s heart is impacted here by that terrible time.”
