Two ambassadors sign science co-operation agreement

British ambassador to Israel and Israeli ambassador to the UK sign off on science and tech deal

Simon Walters

Britain’s ambassador to Israel, Simon Walters, and Israeli ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely, took advantage of Mr Walters’ visit to London this week to co-sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries.

Ms Hotovely said: “As two of the world’s leading countries in the fields of science, research, innovation and technology, this agreement strengthens our co-operation in: sustainability and protecting the environment; health and medicine; Artificial Intelligence; space exploration and education. The UK and Israel are working together to enhance our scientific collaboration.”

In September last year, two designated government ministers —George Freeman for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology and Ofir Akunis for Israel’s Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology — signed a lengthy MoU on science and research co-operation between Britain and Israel. This latest version signed by the two ambassadors will enable Israel’s Science Ministry to partly fund British Council-led joint programmes that are philanthropically backed”.
