Two charged with criminal damage for Stamford Hill tyre slashings

Two men have appeared in court after an attack in which dozens of car tyres were slashed around Stamford Hill.

Ilford resident Huseyin Seyel, 27, and Steven Truran, 25, of Wood Green, were charged with committing racially or religiously aggravated criminal damage after the incident in the early hours of Monday.

A 21-year-old man who was also arrested by police in connection with a series of attacks on cars in Stamford Hill has been bailed, pending further inquiries.

Police are treating it as a racially-motivated crime.

A spokesman for Shomrim, the volunteer security group, said: “The trend was towards Volvos and people-carriers of various makes, which are very popular vehicles amongst the Jewish community.”

A spokesman from Stamford Hill organisation JCC said: “They came well-organised and equipped to carry out a sickening hate crime on over 60 Jewish-owned vehicles. The entire Jewish community woke up to shock and distraction. We are committed to get to the bottom of this.”
