Two Jewish women compete to represent England in lacrosse World Cup

Both ladies admit that its amazing having other Jewish women in the squad.

Two Jewish women are hoping to represent England in the lacrosse World Cup this summer.

Juliette Wise, a 25 year-old Classics teacher from Borehamwood, and Ella Cohen, a 21 year-old Architecture student from Radlett are trialling for the England lacrosse team this spring to compete against 30 other national teams in the USA.

Both admit that it’s amazing having other Jewish women in the squad, but Ella Cohen thinks that more Jewish women should be inspired to compete at an international level.

Juliette Wise  who has been in the England squad for almost two years – will also be representing Great Britain in the World Games.  She has already started fundraising the £10,000 she needs in order to compete, by hosting coaching clinics after work.

All lacrosse athletes are self-funded so Ella will also need to raise sponsorship if she is to compete in the World Cup.

Juliette admits that balancing her teaching job, training and fundraising can sometimes feel like “too much”.

Both women represented Britain in the JCC Maccabiah games. Ex-JFS student Ella said that this was “a massive stepping stone” in her personal sports journey.

Juliette and Ella also train alongside rising Jewish sportstar Izzy Brand, who is a student at the University of Notthingham and is currently competing in the U23s squad.
