Two killed and forty injured after bus overturns on Jerusalem motorway

Two Israelis were killed and at least 41 others injured when a public bus overturned on a motorway near Jerusalem.

The bus collided with a car on Route 443 as it travelled from Modi’in to Jerusalem on Sunday morning. The accident occurred outside of the Beit Horon settlement.

The bus collided with another vehicle on the rain-slicked road and then hit a guardrail, causing it to fall on its side, according to reports.

Two of the injured are reported to be in serious condition.

Three of the passengers were trapped under the wreckage of the bus. A crane was brought in to right the bus and allow rescue workers to reach them.

The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. The bus driver was questioned after the accident, according to Hebrew media reports.

ZAKA search and rescue group attended the scene of the crash, with Shlomo Gottlieb, a volunteer from the Modi’in unit, saying: “I arrived at the scene within just a few minutes. It was like a battlefield. There were injured passengers throughout the entire bus. Some were in serious condition. ”

ZAKA Jerusalem Commander Bentzi Oering added that it was a “very difficult scene. The central reservation has pierced the roof of the bus and trapped the passengers. The firefighters worked hard to ensure ZAKA recovered the bodies.  The scenes we encountered reminded us of the fatal bus 402 accident on Highway a few years ago. “
