Two new shuls unanimously admitted to United Synagogue

Shuls in Kingston and Hendon joined the United Synagogue this week after a unanimous US Council vote to admit them.

Kingston, Surbiton & District, which has 330 members, took the decision in March to join the US in its 60th year, saying “the time was right”.

Hendon-based Magen Avot, which regularly attracts 100 members to shul, also expressed “delight” in becoming a full member this week. Based at the Nancy Reuben Primary School Hall on Finchley Lane, it has been financially supported by the US since its inception only two years ago, and paid tribute to Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis, “whose presence and guidance has done so much to enhance our shul”.

The US admitted Ruislip & District in March and the Birmingham Central Community last year, but there are still seven affiliate communities across the country.

“It is a great pleasure to welcome these two communities as full members,” said David Kaplan, US director of community services. “They are unique and special communities and I look forward to working in close partnership with them.”
