Two more top footballers in the dock over quenelle

Two Premier League footballers have been charged with improper conduct by the governing body regarding the race-hate sign known as the quenelle, only weeks after Frenchman Nicolas Anelka was found guilty and sacked.

The announcement relates to HullCity striker Yannick Sagbo, who said Anelka was “a legend,” and Tottenham Hotspur defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto, who invited the anti-Semitic originator of the sign, comedian Dieudonne, to his club’s ground White Hart Lane.

Both are being charged with an “aggravated breach” over what is seen as an anti-Semitic gesture, while the Football Association has also issued warnings to ManchesterCity’s Samir Nasri and Liverpool’s Mamadou Sakho.
