Union of Jewish Students dedicates Alan Senitt Room

The Union of Jewish Students (UJS) announced that it has dedicated a room in their office to the late Alan Senitt, writes Jack Mendel

Alan held positions of  UJS chairman, National President for the Bnai Brith Youth Organisation and an Israel Lobbyist for BICOM (Britain Israel Communications and Research Centre).

His untimely murder in 2006 left a legacy of young leadership within the Jewish community, which UJS have harnessed with the Alan Senitt award; to promote new younger Jewish student leaders.

Since its inauguration in 2008, the Alan Senitt Outstanding Contribution to Campus Life Award has recognised students that emulate the leadership and dedication exemplified by Alan.

In addition to the award, the dedication of a room in the name of the Alan Senitt Memorial Trust, intends to further engage today’s students with Alan’s powerful example of leadership.

The event was attended by members of Alan’s family, colleagues from the teams he led, past UJS Presidents, Trustees and those that have previously won the UJS Alan Senitt Outstanding Contribution Award.

UJS outlined that “Alan stands tall among the many giants whose shoulders UJS leadership stand upon. Alan exemplified that our community does not consider youth a barrier to leadership, and demonstrated with his far too short life the impressive and inspiring impact young leaders can and do achieve.”

It continues to stress that “UJS is honoured to have been led and served by Alan and we are determined to continue to play our part in honouring his memory through learning and doing more – more Jewish things; more things inspiring young people to follow Alan’s example of passion and dedication to causes and communities that transform lives.”
