UK aliyah up by almost 20% in 2025, new figures show
While there has been a significant increase in those migrating to Israel since 2023, far more people have left the country in that time
The number of people making aliyah from the UK rose by almost 20% last year, with migration to Israel from France rising by 45% in the same period, new figures show.
The Jewish Agency’s figures for 2025 show that 840 people made aliyah from the UK in 2025, a 19% rise. The figures are still far smaller than those of many other countries, including France, where the number making aliyah rose to 3,300, up from 2,200 in 2024. The number of American olim rose by 5%, standing at approximately 3,500, while the number of immigrants from Russia declined sharply, with 8,300 compared to 19,500 the year before.
The number of those arriving, however, has been outpaced by the number who have left the country. In 2024, more than 82,000 Israelis left to live abroad, with demographers citing the 7 October attack by Hamas and subsequent war fatigue as well as dissatisfaction with the government as reasons for those leaving the country.
Israel’s Aliyah and Integration Ministry, however, sought to focus on those entering the country, stating that “over the past year, we continued to see the trend… of increased aliyah from Western countries. In places such as France and the UK, where antisemitism is on the rise, and in parallel to our sustained outreach, we see growing numbers choosing Israel.
“With the prime minister’s support, we are promoting a comprehensive government decision to encourage aliyah from countries facing surging antisemitism, alongside expanded support in the US and Canada. These steps, together with programs for jobs, housing, higher education, and community integration, will further encourage aliyah and strengthen the State of Israel.”
