Uncle of Supernova terror survivor takes on daily charity run until all hostages freed
Civil servant and running coach James Sorene dedicates each daily 12km run to a hostage held by Hamas
The uncle of a survivor of the Supernova music festival massacre has embarked on a daily sponsored run to raise money for Magen David Adom.
James Sorene’s nephew Ariel managed to escape the Hamas terrorists on 7 October. His cousin, Jake Marlowe, a security guard at the festival, was tragically murdered.
Determined to take action and to highlight the plight of the hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza, Sorene, a civil servant and a qualified U.K. Athletics running coach, is now running every single day.
Speaking to Jewish News he said: “Like many Jewish people in London I was personally affected by the events of 7 October. Seeing the terrible suffering in Israel I decided to do something practical and resolved to run at least 10km every day to raise money for Magen David Adom. I knew I might be running for a very long time. I started on 5 November and am in week 3.”
As of Thursday 23rd November, he has run more than 200km and raised more than £1500.
He adds: “I wake up every day at 5am. I dedicate my run each morning to one of the hostages and post their picture. I then set out, whatever the weather and run usually 12km or more. I am a qualified running coach and ran the marathon in April and usually do a few runs each week. But doing a run 6 days a week is a very specific tough challenge, having the energy to do it every day and focusing on avoiding injury.”
Every Friday Sorene runs a 14km loop from his office in Whitehall to the Israeli Embassy in Kensington.
