Jacob Fortune Lloyd at Hampstead Theatre and Eliot Levey at The Almeida

After Leopoldstadt, the need for another Tom Stoppard play was obvious.
Hence the revival of his play Rock’n’Roll, which debuted at the Royal Court in 2006 and is now at Hampstead Theatre. Partly inspired by the jailing of playwright and Czech statesman Václav Havel, the acclaimed work is set between Cambridge and Prague at the end of the last century. It is also about a lot of things: the differences between the East and West in the Cold War, the power of rock music and politics, liberty and identity.

Playwright Sir Tom Stoppard

In rehearsals, Stoppard has been tweaking his script for the play and let actors change things too. “I don’t feel I’ve got to hang on to everything,”he said in his interview with The Standard.“I used to be much more hands-on when I began, almost a control freak.”
