Vale 2nds slump to ‘disasterous’ Harrow defeat

Nigel Rothband helped Vale off to a reasonable reply, but it was all downhill from there shortly afterwards

Vale’s 2nd XI fell to a disappointing defeat on Sunday, as they crashed to a comprehensive defeat by Harrow.

On a good track and a hot day Vale lost the toss and were offered first use of the ball and considering the side contained ten recognised bowlers, the fielding performance was dissapointing.

The side dropped catches, lacked discipline in the field and gave away far too many runs, and as a result needed over seven an over to overhall West Harrow’s massive total. Pick of the bowlers were Jonathan Freedman, Jeff Permutt and Adam Morris who picked up three wickets each.

In reply, Hertfordshire veterans, Nigel Rothband and Permutt put on 50 for the first wicket. After that Hertfordshire colleague Jon Lederman and then Gideon Gale both scored freely. What followed was nothing short of a disaster, Vale lost their last eight wickets for just 35 runs. A dissapointing, heavy defeat.
