YOSSI Benayoun made a winning return to the Israeli Premier League at the weekend as he helped Maccabi Haifa to a 3-1 win over Hapoel Petah Tikva – his first domestic Israeli match since 2002. The 34-year-old midfielder missed his side’s two league games due to injury, though made an impact in his hour of playing time before leaving the pitch to a standing ovation. “It was very important for me to play and I felt okay,” he said, “clearly I’m still not at 100 percent, but this is only the beginning and I’m sure I will improve.” Benayoun does though have a bit of a wait until he’s next in action, with the Israeli League shutting down for Yom Kippur, while he has also been dropped by Israel for their opening two Euro 2016 qualifying campaign.

CONTRARY to a report in last week’s Jewish News, Tony Appiah is not Avram Grant’s agent and therefore any quotes attributed to him were erroneously reported. It should also be clarified that it is unknown whether or not Grant has actually applied for the job in question.
