WHILE AVRAM Grant is reportedly still waiting to find out if he’s got the job to become the new manager of the Ghanaian national team, his CV has been further boosted by winning a trophy at his new club, BEC Tero. The Israeli guided the side to a 2-0 victory in Thailand’s Toyota Cup Final, defeating Buriram United 2-0. He said: “I’m delighted for the players, the supporters and the owner. To beat the holders so convincingly is a great achievement. The atmosphere was as good as I’ve experienced.” Even happier was the club’s owner, Brian Marcar, who said: “We have a lot of good young players in Thailand but what we don’t have is good teachers, that’s why it’s so important to attract people like Avram Grant to come and work here.” Whether he can keep hold of him is another question.

ROY NISSANY, who’s bidding to become Israel’s first Formula 1 driver, will make his test debut in a Formula 1 car after receiving an invitation from team Sauber. Given a full day to drive the Sauber C31 in Valencia, Spain, the 19-year-old completed his second FIA Formula 3 European Championship season at the weekend and said: “I’m delighted to have the chance to test the Sauber C31, and I will put lots of efforts into it to do a good job.”

AN EVENT not to be missed is fast approaching, as two former heads of the Football Association are set to address an audience at Westminster Synagogue. The event, which sees the Jewish News as media partners, will see David Bernstein and Lord Triesman talk about a wide range of topics, including Qatar hosting the 2022 World Cup and the ‘Yid’ debate.
