THE PAST two weeks have given us the opportunity to look at Sunday morning Jewish football from a different perspective – through the eyes of the referee. Providing an at times fascinating insight, there has also been a brutal honesty from the three referees questioned. They’ve discussed their biggest challenges on the pitch, their fear of losing control in a game, how it feels to be called a cheat, as well giving their views on the standard of both playing and officiating – which isn’t all positive. Not afraid to air their opinions – they were even happy to have their say on the Peter Morrison Cup. Their words will – and should – certainly offer food for thought to the hundreds of players who play Jewish football every Sunday morning. While some may not agree with everything they say, Martin Fox, the League Referee Head Secretary summed it up best when he said: “I want players to let us enjoy it as much as we want them to enjoy it.”

THERE MAY not be dissent in the camp just yet, but Enoch Adu Kofi has been left ‘stunned’ after being omitted by Avram Grant from Ghana’s pre-African Nations Cup training camp. Described by local media as being a ‘midfield dynamo’, the Israeli, in charge of the side for barely a fortnight, has taken his new team to Spain for a training camp ahead of the AFCON which begins next weekend. The Malmo star didn’t though make the trip, and told Allsports.com.gh: “I have been in great shape over the past three seasons. I believe I was in the right frame of mind and form to give my all to the Black Stars. Of course I am shocked, I guess I will have to do more to catch the eyes of the technical handlers and I know my time will definitely come. I don’t know how to explain this, only God knows”.
