BOXING has enjoyed a rich history of Jewish fighters, and while it may be a bit premature to proclaim a return to a golden era where they dominated the sport, we can certainly enjoy some renewed hope. While Dmitriy Salita may be pondering his future in the ring, Yuri Foreman recorded a first round knockout win over Mexican Javier Gomez. An aspiring Rabbi, the former WBA world light middleweight champion has now won five straight fights since returning from injury. Closer to home, Danny Ahrens continued his 100 percent winning start to his career, as he won his fifth straight fight. Nothing to sing and dance about yet, but Rome wasn’t built in a day.

WE CAN soon be adding QPR to West Ham, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, as to the list of English clubs Yossi Benayoun has plied his trade at. The former Israel national captain this week decided to take a short trial at Loftus Road, as opposed to signing with Spanish La Liga side Malaga. Benayoun, who hasn’t been able to find a club – and therefore not kicked a competitive football – this season, is set to sign an 18-month contract with the west London side. Reportedly losing interest with the Spaniards after they wouldn’t offer him the same length of contract, Harry Redknapp feels he can get something out of the midfielder. With a little bit of wheeling and dealing, the 33-year-old may soon be turning out for his fourth London club. And not many players can say that.

FULL CREDIT to Bayern Munich fans who paid their own tribute for the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht. During their 3-0 home Bundesliga win over Augsburg, their supporters displayed a banner which translated to “75 years after the November pogroms, nothing and no one is forgotten.” A club to be admired both on and off the pitch.
