Voice of Jewish Sport: Wonder strike keeps Wanderers on track

Woodford Wanderers players celebrate Alex Aviram’s stunning strike in their 2-1 win over Oakwood B

IT MAY not have been a match-winning goal, but it was certainly a goal worthy of contributing to winning a game of such importance. Alex Aviram’s thunderous strike in Woodford Wanderer’s 2-1 win over Oakwood B was reminiscent of Silvinho’s stunning effort against Chelsea back in 2000, but while that wasn’t enough to help Arsenal to that season’s Premier League title, this effort could propel the Wanderers to Division One glory. You can see Silvinho’s effort (somewhere) on YouTube and Aviram’s stunner HERE

A SECOND Division football match in Israel has been making headlines around the world after a slapstick moment saw an injured player being attempted to be stretched off the pitch by medical staff – only to be dumped back onto the pitch. The game in question was between Maccabi Ahi Nazareth and Maccabi Herzliya, which saw the former’s Moamen Saleh needing medical attention. However, after physios finally managed to get the player onto the stretcher, after unsuccessfully trying to escort him off the pitch, he was then dumped to the ground, resulting in his captain then carrying him over the touchline. At least his team won 1-0. You can watch the madness HERE

IT TAKES a lot for me to turn on Arsenal fans but that’s easy to do when you see their behaviour prior to last weekend’s north London derby against Tottenham. A handful of them were caught on film abusing Spurs fans with chants including: “I’ve got a foreskin” and “f****** Jews”. The only good thing is they were caught gloriously on the video footage, and one can only hope both Arsenal FC and British Transport Police take swift, firm and decisive action against them.
