Walk, run, bike or swim! AJEX launches 70 mile fundraiser to mark Queen’s Jubilee

A new fitness project celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Queen’s coronation has been launched by the Association of Jewish Ex-Servicemen and Women.

The ‘70 Miles for 70 Years’ fundraising initiative will see hundreds of Jewish community members sponsored to walk, run, bike or swim 70 miles between March and August this year.

AJEX is aiming to raise up to £25,000 to pay for 70 trees to be planted in the Queen’s name at sites around the world where British Jewish servicemen and women served.

Trees will be planted in Israel, the UK, France, Germany and Italy.

Anyone can take part in the fundraiser, either on their own or as a group.

AJEX National Chairman Dan Fox noted that he is proud that the organisation has established a strong relationship with the Royal Family since it was established in 1936.

“AJEX has been grateful and honoured to receive support from members of the Royal Family over our long history. Jewish servicemen and women have served the Crown in peacetime and in war for nearly 300 years,” Fox said.

“It is a source of great pride for us that a quarter of that time has been under Her Majesty the Queen’s reign”.

Chief Executive, Fiona Palmer added: “We hope individuals and groups across our community will join us in this special project to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

“We look forward to seeing people of all ages getting involved as part of the 70 miles for 70 years. It will be great to see the many ways the 70 miles can be achieved!”
