Warner warms up for Russia world champs with win

Adam Warner with his latest gold medal

Open water swimmer Adam Warner final preparations before next month’s Masters championships in Russia saw him claim another gold medal.

Competing in the 3k event in Marlow which consisted of two laps of a 1,500m circuit, Warner led for the majority of the race, as he swam home in style to ensure he travels to Kazan full of confidence.

He said: “I’m delighted to have come away with a win at my final preparation competition. This has given me great confidence going into Russia. I really wanted to win this race, to boost my chances in the Masters World Championships.”

Commenting on the race, he said: “I started the race really well, as I was out in the lead, but quickly got caught up by two swimmers, when I decided to sit behind them and conserve my energy. It wasn’t until the end of the first lap, where I decided to push and lead the race. I ended up winning the race, but had to sprint as fast as I could to cross the line first.”

Now looking ahead to the world championships, he said: “That’s it now, just a few more weeks of training and then it is time to race. I want to thank everyone who has supported me up to this point and hopefully I can bring a medal back for GBR and even the Jewish people.”
