WATCH: JLC accuses Corbyn of not caring enough about racism in party

A video produced by the Jewish Leadership Council said Jeremy Corbyn did not deliver on his promise of stamping out antisemitism

A Jewish organisation has accused Jeremy Corbyn of not “caring enough about racism” when it occurs within the Labour Party in a video released today.

The clip, produced by the Jewish Leadership Council (JLC), criticises the Labour leader for failing to deliver on his promise of stamping out antisemitism in Labour.

“You haven’t responded fast enough, been decisive enough, firm enough, transparent enough, empathetic enough and for a lifelong activist, you haven’t exactly been active enough.”

“As leader of the opposition, you lead the British public to only one conclusion: when it comes to racism in your Labour Party, you simply don’t care enough,” it says.

The video references the demonstration against antisemitism in Labour organised by the JLC and Board of Deputies, which drew in thousands of protesters to Parliament Square over a year ago.

“We were the ones outside parliament, thousands of us protesting against racism towards Jews. Racism in your party. In your name,” the video says.

“Remember how scared we were? How unwelcome and unwanted we felt. Remember how we pleaded with you and said ‘enough is enough?’”

“You looked Britain in the eye and said loud and clear ‘racism against Jews is intolerable, evil and has no place within Labour or wider society’. “

Jonathan Goldstein, chair of the JLC, said: “It has been nearly a year since we met with Jeremy Corbyn, and we are yet to see sufficient action on any of the issues we discussed in that meeting.

“Through his inability to act, we view the Labour Party as having become truly institutionally antisemitic, and that is something we cannot tolerate. This video is a reminder to Mr Corbyn that the issues we discussed at our meeting still need to be addressed.

“The British Jewish community is still waiting to see leadership and action to stamp out one of the oldest forms of hatred in existence that appears to be thriving within his party.”
