Watch: Rosamund Pike and Daniel Bruhl star in Entebbe

Political thriller Entebbe, which recounts the daring mission launched by Israeli commandos in 1976 to rescue nearly 100 hostages, is set to hit UK cinemas in May.

Directed by Jose Padilha, the film stars Rosamund Pike and Daniel Brühl as two of the four hijackers who seized control of an Air France jet traveling from Tel Aviv to Paris.

Diverting the plane to Entebbe, the main airport of Uganda, the hijackers – who were Palestinian and German terrorists – demanded the release of 40 militants imprisoned in Israel and 13 in four other countries, in exchange for the passengers.

Ugandan dictator Idi Amin supported their cause and personally welcomed them after arriving in the country.

Over the following two days, 148 non-Israeli passengers were released and flown to Paris, leaving 94, mainly Israeli passengers, alongside 12 Air France crew.

With information provided by Mossad, the IDF launched one of the most audacious rescue missions in history.

Entebbe is the fourth film to dramatize the events of Operation Entebbe, following Victory at Entebbe, Raid on Entebbe and Operation Thunderbolt.

Entebbe is released in UK cinemas on Friday, 11 May.
