FINA rule Israel not safe to host world open water champs

Next month’s world junior open water championships which were set to take place in Israel has been relocated as a result of the current situation in the Middle East.

Eilat was set to host the event over the final weekend of August, but FINA, the International swimming federation, has now decided to move the tournament to another country, and pushing it back to early September.

Posting a message on their website, they said: “Please be informed that due to the unstable and unpredictable situation in the region, the FINA Bureau unanimously decided the cancellation of the 2nd FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships that were scheduled to take place in the city of Eilat. This exceptional decision was also dictated by notes of concern from various FINA National Member Federations related to the security of their athletes and officials.”
