Amir Weintraub is through to the second round of qualifiers

Amir Weintraub won his opening Australian Open qualifying match on Wednesday morning, as he bids to join Dudi Sela in the main draw of the competition, which gets underway on Monday.

Up against Australian Luke Saville, the Israeli fought back from going a set down, losing it 6-4, to win the second and decisive third, 6-3, 6-4. He next faces GB’s Daniel Evans, looking to beat him and secure a place in the third and final qualifying round.

In the women’s draw, Shahar Peer gets her women’s qualifying campaign underway when she takes on the seventh seed, Kristyna Pliskova, from the Czech Republic.
Julia Glushko, ranked 16th in the qualifying competition, also gets her campaign underway on Thursday, when she faces Japan’s Eri Hozumi.
