West End stars singing in Highgate this week as part of Jewish Culture month
JDAL Sings #2 will showcase old and new material in celebration of Jewish songwriters
An evening celebrating Jewish songwriters is being staged on Tuesday 26 May as part of Jewish Culture Month.
The event, at Upstairs At The Gatehouse Theatre, will feature over 20 songs.
“It is an homage to the great composers like Sondheim, Stephen Schwartz, Joseph Stein, Jerry Bock, Irving Berlin, Mel Brooks and Alan Menken as well as more modern great musical theatre writers,” says Benjamin Sumrie, a theatre director, writer and actor who is directing the show.
“There will be lots of favourite songs, along with some new ones, to show the contrast, range and artistry of these great musicians. And they will be accompanied on the piano by Ashley Jacobs the show’s musical director.
“The songs will be performed by a talented cast of seven from West End and international stages.”
The show is hosted by Natan Paul-Collis, who runs the Jewish Dramatic Association of London (JDAL)
“We are calling this show JDAL Sings #2,” Natan said. “Our last show was so popular that we sold out and had to put tables and chairs on the stage to allow more people to come.
“This is the first time we have performed a cabaret style cycle of songs. It will be a choreographed show and there will be a wonderful range of music, everything from choral works to duets and harmonies.”
JDAL Sings #2 is at Upstairs At The Gatehouse on 26 May at 7.30 pm. Book tickets here.
