Israeli wins opening doubles match, but knocked out of singles competition

Yshai Oliel was knocked out of the first round of the boys' singles competition

Yshai Oliel enjoyed a day of mixed fortunes at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old started the day being knocked out of the boys’ singles competition, the 12th seed, beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Frenchman Matteo Martineau, in a match which last ed two days due to a rain delay.

There was though more positive news for him later on Wednesday after he and American Andrew Fenty won their first round doubles match – beating American Brian Cernoch and Dutchman Jesper De Jong 6-4, 6-2.
