Wimbledon 2017: Sela suffers doubles exit

Dudi Sela was knocked out of the Wimbledon doubles competition on Wednesday afternoon.

Teaming up with Brazilian Andre Sa, the pair were taking on American Nicholas Monroe and Artem Sitak and seemed to be heading towards victory, having won the first two sets 6-3, 6-3. However, an early break againt them in the third set, saw them lost the third set 7-5, and from thereon in, it all seemed to go downhill for the pair. Losing the fourth set on a tiebreak, Monroe and Sitak completed a memorable turnaround by winning the fifth and final set 6-3.

Sela is next set to be in action on Thursday when he takes on John Isner for a place in the third round of the singles competition, following his first round win on Tuesday evening.

Also on Wednesday, Jonathan Erlich, saw his campaign ended after he and Philippines’ Treat Huey were beaten by the sixth seeds, Croatian Ivan Dodig and Spain’s Marcel Granollers. Having lost the first two sets, they pulled the match level, winning the third and fourth sets on tiebreaks, but couldn’t complete the comeback, losing 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 6-7, 6-4.

Elsewhere, American Scott Lipsky, teaming up with compatriot Frances Tiafore, were beaten 4-6, 5-7, 7-5, 2-6 by Chilean Hans Podlipnik-Castillo and Belarussian Andrei Vasilevski

There was another defeat for Diego Schwartzman, this time in the doubles after he and fellow Argentine NIcolas Kicker were beaten 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 by Frenchman Julien Benneteau and Canadian Vasek Pospisil.
