Wimbledon 2018 – Camila Giorgi through to third round

Jewish Italian beats American Madison Brengle in straight sets

Camila Giorgi was knocked out of Wimbledon on Friday afternoon

Camila Giorgi continued her winning start at Wimbledon on Wednesday afternoon when she beat Madison Brengle in straight sets.

The Italian, who’s ranked 51 in the world, 50 places above her American opponent, took the first set in just over half an hour, 6-4, and found herself serving for the second – and match – at 5-3 up, only to be broken. However, with Brengle needing to hold serve, Giorgi broke back immediately, converting her first match point, to wrap up a 44-minute set, 6-4.

She will now be bidding to equal her best-ever appearance at the Championships, when she also reached the fourth round in 2012, when she takes on either Czech Katerina Siniakova or Tunisian Ons Jabeur.
