Wingate claim first league win of the season

Scott Shulton had the first effort at goal after being released by Rob Laney, in similar circumstances to his goal last Saturday, however this time his shot was blocked behind by the keeper.
Wingate had started the brighter side on this cool evening, and took the lead on 14 minutes after a long spell of heavy pressure. Karl Oliyide was released down the left flank, he cut the ball back and Ola Sogbanmu arrived late to roll the ball home into the bottom left corner.
However, Hampton were gifted an equaliser within four minutes after Bobby Smith committed a foul after a poor back pass to him. The penalty was scored at the second attempt by Charlie Moore after a weak first effort had been parried.
Oliyidi so nearly put Wingate back in the lead, as he sent a composed volley goalwards from a deep David Knight cross. However, for the third time in two matches, the shot was denied by the woodworm .
Bobby Smith was on hand at the other end to keep the scores level, making a diving save from a 20 yard free-kick, and then flicking the rebound wide for a corner.
The game completely opened up towards the end of the first half, with end to end attacking. Matt Steer blocked a Scott Shulton effort on the goalline as the goal was gaping for the confident Wingate winger. For Hampton, Moone was released by a useful long ball through the centre, but sliced his attempted chip wide when he should have scored.
Three minutes after the break, Wingate regained the lead. Oliyidi was involved again as he broke down the left and cut inside. The ball came to Knight who in turn played in Shulton. He sent a composed curling effort into the top right corner from 18 yards leaving keeper Warren Carter helpless.
Wingate, typically so brittle after scoring, learned their lesson and stifled the game expertly. Hampton failed to create a single clear chance in the second half, and on 75 minutes Wingate extended the lead. Substitute Leon Fisher created the goal with a superb angled through ball from the right side. Knight was released and lobbed the stranded keeper accurately.
Knight then sealed the win five minutes from time, slotting home in a one-on-one comfortably after being played in by Rob Laney’s selfless square pass.
