The first half was even, but Wingate could not get the breakthrough, and Lewes were clinical after the break with three good strikes.

Wingate had started better with good pressure, but survived a scare when Marc Weatherstone sent a bullet header from a defensive corner goalwards and Cain Davies parried it instinctively over the bar.

Wingate were forcing Lewes errors in the middle of the park, and Leon Fisher picked the ball up before releasing Ahmet Rifat who drove into the area, but he pulled his shot across goal. After a deep cross from the left wing, Lewes’ Jay Lovett headed against the bar, with the ball fortunately bouncing off Davies for a corner. As dominance swung back and forth, Rifat went on a foray on the edge of the Lewes area but struck his shot straight at the goalkeeper.

The breakthrough came when Jack Dixon scored 15 minutes after the break with a superb volley from the edge of the area. It was a rare moment of quality, which as it turned out, proved crucial.

Blewden doubled the lead and sealed the win 15 minutes from time with a low finish through Davies after driving purposefully into the left side of the area. He doubled his tally with a sweet volley with three minutes left after a good cross from the right wing.

Wingate were disjointed after the break and created few clear chances, and are left with a must-win game on Saturday against Enfield Town.
