More than 6,000 Ukrainians made aliyah in the first three quarters of this year, according to the Jewish Agency. Almost as many Russians made the move, the two countries comprising the bulk of Israel’s new immigrants. The amount leaving France has fallen by more than half since the terror attack in 2015.

Country: Belgium

The Jewish Museum in Brussels has opened its first new exhibition – a history of immigration to Belgium – after four people were killed in a terrorist attack there three years ago. Mehdi Nemmouche, a French national who had returned from fighting for ISIS in Syria, is standing trial for the killings.

The student body at McGill University in Montreal has kept three pro-Israel students off its board. The student society supports the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, and the three students were denied places on the board because they said they would deem BDS support ‘unconstitutional’.

Country: Germany

Historians based at the London School of Economics and the Munich-based Institute of Contemporary History are to lead a major re-examination of the role of Germany’s central bank during the Nazi years. Some say it may have helped the Nazis launder looted gold and drive up inflation in occupied countries.
