Yachad backs Zionst Federation for Yom Ha’atzmaut

Yachad director Hannah Weisfeld

Yachad is among a host of organisations backing a Zionist Federation celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut – marking the first time the two organisations have worked together on an event.

The pro-Israel pro-peace body is promoting Young ZF’s after-show young professionals party on 23 April, alongside charities including UJIA, Kisharon and JNF.

It comes just over a year after the ZF rejected Yachad’s bid to become an affiliate member amid a bitter war of words.

ZF Chairman Paul Charney said the event was an “opportunity for the youth in our community of all political and religious stripes to get together for one night and celebrate Israel’s birthday.

“We’re delighted that so many different organisations and charities have signed on to help support the event and, irrespective of any differences of opinion, we invite one and all to rejoice in Israel alongside us.”

Yachad director Hannah Weisfeld added: “The ZF asked if we would like to be partners on an event for young adults to celebrate Yom Ha’atzmaut and we are more than happy to participate.”

It’s understood that Yachad currently has no plans to reapply for affiliate status. But Weisfeld said: “Hopefully this is the beginning of a more inclusive Zionist Federation.”
