Yavneh honours five staff ‘heroes’ on Thank a Teacher Day

Five members of staff from Yavneh College and Yavneh Primary have been recognised with special “Yavneh Hero Awards” as the schools marked National Thank a Teacher Day.

The awards were introduced following Executive Headteacher Spencer Lewis’s nomination for a Pearson National Teaching Award last year and were created to celebrate staff members who make an exceptional contribution to school life.

Colleagues were invited to nominate members of staff they felt consistently go above and beyond for pupils and fellow staff, with winners selected across both schools.

Among those honoured were Yavneh College Head of Science Miss Tappenden, who received the Teaching Hero award, and Deputy SENCO Mrs Shah, who was named Non-Teaching Hero. At Yavneh Primary, Mrs Hyman was recognised as the Key Stage 2 Teaching Hero, while Miss Kyte received the Key Stage 1 Teaching Hero award. Miss Tamam was named as the school’s Non-Teaching Hero.

Announcing the winners, Lewis paid tribute to the commitment and dedication shown by staff across the Yavneh Schools.

He said: “We are delighted to celebrate the wonderful staff of the Yavneh schools who day in and day out give of themselves, making sure that they prepare interesting, interactive, challenging lessons and who care for every single pupil with kindness. Yavneh pupils are incredibly lucky.

“Our staff body has nominated five colleagues who they feel go above and beyond to make a real difference, and we couldn’t be more proud.”

National Thank a Teacher Day is held annually to recognise the contribution of teachers, support staff and school leaders across the UK.

The Yavneh Hero Awards were presented during celebrations on 17 June, with the schools using the occasion to highlight the efforts of staff whose work has made a significant impact on pupils and the wider community.
