All across Israel, people got out on to the streets and headed down to the beach, lighting up barbecues and partying into the night to celebrate the country’s 71st birthday!

After the country came to a standstill to remember the fallen soldiers and victims of terror  on Yom Hazikaron, Independence Day celebrations began at nightfall.

As well as hosting what has become ‘traditional’ barbecues across the country,  Israelis visited army bases to celebrate military victories and watched spectacular air shows from the Air Force.

An event was also held for outstanding soldiers attended by senior political figures including Israel’s president Reuven Rivlin and prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
