Young Jewish law students mingle at Succah in the City!
Over 30 Jewish law students celebrated Succot with an event in London, where they got to probe newly graduated and experienced lawyers.
Heralding from Universities as far afield as Manchester, York Sussex – and of course London –they got the chance to pick the brains of Jewish law graduates and some of the most prominent and experienced Jewish professionals.
Hosted by the Union of Jewish Students (UJS) in partnership with law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), experts from firms such as, Stowe Family Law, Red Lion Chambers and even a Judge from Harrow Crown Court, sat on discussion panels in the Succah.
After being introduced by UJS president Hannah Brady, the discussions proceeded, with a particular emphasis on the work-life balance. Marilyn Stowe, a Senior Partner at Stowe Family Law, told the budding lawyers: “It’s okay to be a high flyer, but family counts most.”
They discussed topical issues including the challenges facing the legal profession, gaining experience, applying for jobs, and the different paths for law graduates.
Following two panel discussions, the students the chance to pose any further questions, and enjoy canapés.
“The event was invaluable.” said Zach Confino, of York Jewish Society. “It provided me with great tips for applications and also a great insight into all areas of the profession.”.
The event took place on Wednesday 30 September in London.
