£300,000 raised in school’s campaign for urgent repairs

A Southgate primary school has raised over £300,000 in a successful campaign to pay for urgent repairs to its building.

The 450-pupil Wolfson Hillel Primary School hit its £200,000 target within just twelve hours in a two-day fundraising drive last weekend.

Money raised will go towards repairing the roof on the 100-year-old building as well as plumbing and pipe works. Families undertook a range of fundraising efforts including bake sales, children making cameo-style video clips and a walk and scoot around Blenheim Palace. 

Alex Kingston, Headteacher, said: “We have been completely overwhelmed with the response from our families and thank everyone for their brilliant support. 

“The generosity shown by our community will make a huge difference towards the extra £900,000 we estimate we need for maintenance over the coming years.”

The fundraiser was a ‘matched’ campaign that saw all donations doubled by donors including the Wolfson Charities and other supporters of the school.

Honorary Principal Rabbi Yisroel Fine, who helped found the school in 1992, said “The success of this campaign will enable us to continue to deliver the very best Jewish and secular education which has made Wolfson Hillel the outstanding school that it is.”
