60 Jewish educators convene online symposium to share Covid lessons

Event organised jointly by the LSJS and UJIA was held 'to bring the community together at a time when Jewish education is at a critical point'

LSJS chief executive Joanne Greenaway speaks at the introduction to the event

More than 60 key figures in Jewish education in the UK convened online last week to share lessons learned from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The symposium, organised jointly by the London School of Jewish Studies (LSJS) and the UK-Israel charity UJIA, covered both formal and informal education and sought to highlight the best ways of moving forward.

Organisers said the aim was “to bring the community together at a time when Jewish education is at a critical point,” adding that the event “provided a collaborative space to address the issue of how to ‘build back better’ after the Covid experience”.

Joining school leaders were heads of youth movements, synagogues, and education organisations, as LSJS chief executive Joanne Greenaway said it was “only the start of a process”.

UJIA boss Mandie Winston said: “Our community’s future rests upon the quality of our Jewish educational experiences. We were inspired and motivated by the commitment, passion and wisdom of the participants.”
