Jewish actor Jason Isaacs was the latest celebrity to lend his support to Finchley and Golders Green candidate Luciana Berger in the final days before the general election.

The surprise canvasser, who played Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, went door-knocking with the Liberal Democrat hopeful at the weekend.

Isaacs, who was born in Liverpool and brought up in North London where he attended Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School, shared a link to tactical voting website in a tweet on Sunday in which he praised Berger as “brilliant, brave and ballsy.”

“Can’t imagine why anyone *wouldn’t* vote for her but then some people like to nail their private parts to chopping boards, so there’s no accounting for taste,” the actor wrote.

In response to criticism from an online user, he claimed Berger “was hounded out of her party and constituency by hard line Corbynistas and a torrent of antisemitism for standing up for the truth.”

In recent days, Berger received the endorsements of the actor Hugh Grant and the historian Simon Schama who both joined her on the campaign trail.

But the tactical voting website Remain United predicts a ten point lead for the Conservative Mike Freer, who is on 42 percent, followed by Berger on 32 percent, with Labour’s Ross Houston trailing on 18 percent.
