Actor Tracy Ann Oberman to join rally against antisemitism in Parliament Square

Actress Tracy Ann Oberman is to sound the alarm over antisemitism at a rally against anti-Jewish racism in Parliament Square this weekend.

The former EastEnders actress will be joined on Sunday by fellow speakers Judge Robert Rinder, the comedian Matt Forde, interfaith campaigner Fiyaz Mughal, Satish Sharma, of the National Council of Hindu Temples and retired British Army officer Colonel Richard Kemp.

Organised by Campaign Against Antisemitism, the event seeks to “stand #TogetherAgainstAntisemitism in the face of Jew-hatred in politics and mounting anti-Jewish hate crime.”

The rally received the backing of Countdown presenter and prominent campaigner against antisemitism Rachel Riley, who urged members of the public to attend the rally in solidarity with the Jewish community.

“This is the most consequential moment in the Jewish community’s history in this country for centuries. We’re going to look back at this moment and ask ourselves if we did everything we could,” she said.

She was joined in endorsing the rally by Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden, who said: “Antisemitism is surging in our politics, online and on the streets.

“The fight against antisemitism is the fight for our country’s soul. Regardless of our politics, race or religion, everyone who can must stand #TogetherAgainstAntisemitism with British Jews in Parliament Square this Sunday.”

Gideon Falter, chief executive of the anti-racism organisation, said: “The Jewish community has been shaken by antisemitism in public life and mounting hate crime.

“Many are saying that they feel isolated and hated. We have heard heartbreaking stories from Jews who are questioning their place in their own country. Now is the time for us all to take a stand, and Britain can be better than this.”

The rally will take place in Parliament Square from 1.15pm on 8 December.
