Amy Winehouse documentary nominated for Oscar

A British documentary on Amy Winehouse is in with a shot of winning an Oscar.

‘Amy,’ by Jewish American filmmakers Davis Guggenheim and Joshua Oppenheimer, is now a semi-finalist for an Academy Award for best documentary feature, after more than 120 contenders was reduced to 15.

Their work, released in the UK this summer, shows the singer-songwriter as “a little Jewish kid from North London with a big talent”. She died on alcohol poisoning aged 27 years, following an unsuccessful battle with addiction.

The 15 candidates will be cut to five when nominations in all categories are announced on 15 January, with the 2016 Oscar winners announced on 28 February.
