Australian stationery chain ‘did not have room’ for Israel on its maps

An Australian stationery chain has denied that its sale of a map marking ‘Palestine’ and not ‘Israel’ was motivated by politics, instead insisting it simply “did not have room”.

Typo, part of the Cotton On group, faced threats of boycott from Israel-supporters, after the names of several countries were relegated to a number reference. “Typo is not removing any country from the globe,” said the company.

“We made the decision to recall the current globes from sale as we are sourcing new artwork from our supplier that has every country marked on it but with no need for a key… We never intended to offend anyone with this product.”
